Hawaii Motor Vehicle Laws
- Cellphones and Texting - No handheld devices can be used while driving.
- Seat belts - ALL occupants in the car must wear seat belts.
- Zero Tolerance - The legal drinking age in Hawaii is 21. If you are under 21, drive sober or your license can be taken away.
- Use & Lose - If anyone under 21 is caught drinking, holding or buying alcohol, they will lose their driver's license.
- Speeding - Speed limits are indicated by posted signs. Excessive speeding is the cause of more than half of Oahu's traffic fatalities.
- Booster Seats - Children ages 4 -7 must travel in a booster seat, unless the child is at least 4'9" tall.
- Social Host - Illegal for adults to provide alcohol to anyone under the age of 21 and/or knowingly permit a minor to possess alcohol on their property.
